What Does Automation Mean?

Automation is a system that operates automatically and controlled by including robot, machine, electronic and pneumatic equipment and computer in the same system in order to increase production quality with minimum need for human.

Automation is used in almost all industries. Manufacturing, construction, electricity – electronics, industry, recycling, textile are the leading sectors. Of course, besides these, smart home technologies continue to touch our lives. It can control possible fires, central heating, air conditioners and burglar alarms.

In addition to making human life easier, the cost advantages it provides for factories cannot be ignored.

It helps to ensure customer satisfaction by reducing the number of faulty production. Companies that focus on manpower in production leave behind in terms of speed and time, and their competitive power increases. They allow the production to increase, and time is saved from stages such as installation, transportation and loading. To summarize the benefits,

  • increase in productivity,
  • Increasing product quality,
  • Reduction of production time,
  • Reduction in labor costs and shortages,
  • Reduction of manual and administrative work,
  • Keeping them away from dangerous situations in terms of human health and safety,
  • Being up-to-date and flexible due to adapting to technology.

The automation level is determined by the sharing status of the job. If human power is used more intensively than automation, it can be classified as semi-automation, and if machine power is used more intensively than human power, it can be classified as full automation. Automation enables to catch up with the globalizing world. If we think of the world as a whole market, you need to switch to automation systems in order to survive and adapt to competitive conditions. This means fast and economical production, being strong and permanent in the market, and providing quality products and services.

What is Industrial Automation?

Work distribution between machines and people in factories or industrial work sites is industrial automation. Less labor is required. In times of need for innovation, the purpose of industrial automations, which emerged as a result of long studies, was to provide 24-hour uninterrupted production and reduce personnel costs. However, at this point, productivity and quality have increased.

You can think of the main purpose of industrial automation as reducing human errors, increasing product efficiency and gaining speed in production. Therefore, if we talk about the advantages of the system:

Low Cost: While it provides full advantage for employers, it unfortunately upsets the workers. Automation systems affect unemployment rates in the country. It reduces the need for people and production can continue with low costs. Since they do not require continuous maintenance, the company’s maintenance engineers can intervene immediately in case of malfunctions.

High Rate of Productivity: Even if all factories work 24/7 in 3 shifts, they cannot reach the serial and error-free production level they want. Human needs will not end and full efficiency will not be achieved with breaks. In industrial automation, on the other hand, production can continue uninterrupted. With end-to-end automation in industrial fields, processes from raw materials to production, from packaging to storage can be completed without the need for humans.

High Rate of Quality: Since the automations, which are planned to work 24/7, are equipped with mathematical calculations, they perform the production in accordance with the entered data. By providing product continuity without leaving any room for error, they provide the same quality product.

High Flexibility: You may need to train your employees for every change you make in production. If you are working in three shifts, you should repeat this at least 2 times. All desired changes and innovations can be realized with the training of a person who has full knowledge of automation and uses the machine. It can be flexibly adapted to technology.
